Hong Kong's customs officers have shut down a syndicate that produced counterfeit proprietary Chinese medicine, arresting nine people and seizing 740 thousand dollars worth of fake medicated oil and balm.
Officers raided six commercial and industrial units in Kwai Chung, Fo Tan and Sheung Wan and a flat in Jordan.
They closed a production and packaging centre at Wah Sing Street in Kwai Chung, a laboratory and storage centre at Kwei Tei Street in Fo Tan, and a storage centre at Wong Chuk Yeung Street in Fo Tan.
They seized about 17,000 bottles of counterfeit medicated oil and about 1,000 bottles of balm bearing two brand names.
They also arrested two women and seven men, aged 17 to 58.
A Customs investigation is underway.
The syndicate used a unit in Fo Tan as a storage centre and laboratory to produce the counterfeit medicated oil and balm. The mixtures were then sent to a centre in Kwai Chung for post-production and packaging.
