Shanghai has completed the construction of 34 new community sports facilities this year, which has surpassed the target set by the municipal government.
With the new facilities finished, China's largest city has now 76,000 square meters more area for sporting activities. Among them are 97 sports facilities including 70 basketball courts, 31 of them up to international standards.
Among others are venues for soccer, volleyball, badminton, tennis and athletics.
The municipal government has worked out an overall plan for the construction of community sports facilities. By 2010, there'll be a total of 300 community sports facilities across the city.
