Death toll rose to 4813 in Sri Lanka

At least 4,813 people dead in the huge tsunami triggered by the earthquake off Indonesia, 4,013 in government controlled area, and 800 in LTTE controlled area, the military sources said Monday

Massive sea waves, triggered by an earthquakes measuring 8.7 on the Richter scale in Southeast Asia, according to China Earthquake Administration, crashed into coastal villages over a wide area of Sri Lanka on Sunday, killing thousands of people and displacing one million others.

The quake was the strongest over the past four decades, and the fourth-largest in a century. It was nearly 10 kilometers deep and was followed by a half-dozen powerful aftershocks.
