Sri Lankan President declares week-long mourning

President Chandrika Kumaratunga, who returned home last night, has declared a week-long period of mourning after the huge disaster in Sri Lanka, official sources said Tuesday.

The president cut short her private visit to Britain after Sri Lanka was hit by the huge tsunami triggered by an earthquake off Indonesia.

Death toll in the country has risen to 11,960, military sources said here Tuesday.
