Ukraine's Yushchenko calls on his supporters to block government office

Ukraine's opposition presidential candidate Viktor Yushchenko has called on his supporters to block the building of the central government, where on Wednesday a Cabinet meeting planned to be chaired by his opponent, Prime Minister Viktor Yanukovych, is to take place.

"I urge every one... to reinforce blockade of the government ever since the morning of Wednesday," Yushchenko told his supporters gathered in the Independence Square in the down town Kiev late Tuesday.

"I want officially to declare there will be no meeting of an illegitimate government," Yushchenko said.

Yushchenko also told his supporters that he would hold a "public inauguration" in the Independence Square.

"I invite you to take part in my public inauguration, which will be held in the Independence Square," he told the crowd.

As 100 percent of the votes of the Sunday presidential election counted, Yushchenko has won 51.99 percent of the vote, election officials said Tuesday.

Yanukovych got 44.19 percent, according to the Central Election Commission.

Yanukovych has refused to concede defeat and said he will appeal to the Supreme Court in a bid to overturn the result.

Earlier on Tuesday Yanukovych, who had a vacation during the election campaign, started to work as Ukraine's Prime Minister.

He is due to head a Cabinet meeting on Wednesday.
