Li Jinhua, head of the National Audit Office, won the annual China Economic Celebrities award presented by CCTV on Tuesday.

Li became one of the most famous figures in China in 2004 because his office's auditing brought down hundreds of officials and saved millions of yuan for the Chinese Government.

CCTV also selected nine other top economic figures for 2004, including Ma Yun, chairman and administrator of the Alibaba auction Web site, Yang Yuanqing, head of the Lenovo Group, Hu Maoyuan, head of the Shanghai Automotive Industry Corp., Mai Boliang, head of the China International Marine Containers (Group) Ltd., Li Dongsheng, head of the TCL Group, Hou Weigui, head of ZTE, Wang Xianzhang, general manager of China Life, Guo Guangchang, board chairman of Fosun Group, and Zhou Xiaochuan, head of the People's Bank of China.

CCTV has presented the awards for the past five years to honor model businesses in a nation in the middle of profound economic change.

Initial nominations came in mobile phone messages and CCTVs Web site, after which 100 CCTV judges narrowed the list to 23.

Online voting continued through Tuesday.
