China's aid to Sri Lanka arrived

An Airbus 747 belonging to China southern cargo landed at Sri Lankan Bandaranaike international airport on Wednesday afternoon, bring the relief goods for people living in Tsunami-hit areas.

Chinese Ambassador in Sri Lanka Sun guoxiang handed over the relief goods worth 10 million yuan (around 1.22 million dollars) and 200,000 dollars in cash to secretary of Sri Lankan Ports and Aviation ministry A. Hewage at the airport after the flight arrived at 2:54 p.m. local time.

Sun, on behalf of Chinese government and people, expressed the greetings and sympathy to the families of victim, and hoped the aid to be distributed as soon as possible.

Hewage thanked the Chinese government and people for offering the emergency necessity to the stricken victims in the coastal areas of Sri Lanka, stressing "China and Sri Lanka have traditional good relations for the past several decades. Whenever Sri Lanka meets some difficulties, China is always providing assistance promptly to our country."

The relief goods include blankets, tents, bed sheets and food involving canned chicken, beef and mutton.
