Goods violating exclusive rights to Olympic symbols confiscated
font size

Recently as a Zhejiang company submitted the export declaration for a batch of mountain bikes to the Shanghai Customs the Customs' Waigaoqiao office discovered 2,003 bicycles with the symbol of "OLYMPIC" on them during examination. These bicycles are worth 456,500-odd yuan. They have been identified by the Organizing Committee for the 29th Olympic Games as right-violating goods.

As learned since the State Council implemented Regulations on the Protection of Olympic Symbols in November, 2002 the Shanghai Customs has discovered nine cases connected with violating exclusive rights to Olympic symbols with the involved value exceeding 1.23 million yuan. These goods include garments, chemical fiber blankets, locks and bicycles

The Shanghai Customs has adopted a series of measures to crack down behaviors infringing the exclusive rights to Olympic symbols. For example, they regularly hold legal consulting meetings requiring enterprises to actively abide by relevant laws and regulations; invite competent officials at the Olympic Committee to give officials at the Customs lectures on knowledge about the Olympic symbols, so as to raise their ability to examine and seize goods violating the exclusive rights to Olympic symbols. The Shanghai Customs have successfully seized several batches of goods pirating the Olympic symbols. Because of this the International Olympic Committee has specifically asked the Organizing Committee for the 29th Olympic Games to send a letter thanking the Shanghai Customs for protecting the Olympic symbols.
