| 2004: Rejuvenation of the old industrial bases in the northeast |
|
In October 2003, China adopted strategy to rejuvenate the old industrial bases in the northeast. New ideas, new systems, new mechanisms and new approaches were proposed to be applied in the task. In the first year of adopting the strategy, the three provinces in northeast have actively carried forward adjustment in the old industrial base. The economy has risen rapidly and profits been apparently enhanced in 2004.

 The modern numerical control machine tools were placed orderly in a production base of the Dalian Heavy Industry Group in Xiushui. Through merger and renovation, some old enterprises in Liaoning province have stepped on the road to new industrialization.

 Cui Lan, a stewardess of the Northern Airlines served passengers on January 13th, 2004. The Northern Airlines resumed operation of its branch in Heilongjiang Province. The branch played a very important role in building an air passage in northeast Asia and developing short-route flights to Russia, Japan and ROK.
 The first 15-leaves rotator manufactured by the Harbin Electric Machinery Plant was successfully delivered. This is the 4th rotator that the plant manufactured for the Three Gorges Project.
 A technician with the Jilin Fuel Ethanol Co.,Ltd worked in the central control room. The Jilin Province began trial of ethanol gas for vehicle in 2004. The application of ethanol gas is beneficial to adjust energy consumption structure of China, lower car emission and promote sustainable development.
 Two residents of Shenyang passed an advertisement of a real property project. The house price rose 19.22 percent in Shenyang in the 3rd quarter of 2004, ranking No. 1 in 35 large and medium cities in China. Real estate development boomed under the background of rejuvenation of the northeast. Houses with floor space of 7 million square meters were built in 2004.
 This is the wharf for grains at the Beiliang port, Dalian. In January and February 2004, Liaoning Province realized gross industrial value of 102.006 bln yuan, 30.2 percent higher than same period in 2003. The SOEs realized gross industrial value of 65.084 bln yuan, representing 63.8 percent of values the large industries created and an increase of 29.2 percent as against 2003.
