Wu Bangguo issues appointment to Macao's Basic Law Committee

China's top legislator Wu Bangguo issued letters of appointment to 10 members of the Basic Law Committee of the Macao Special Administrative Region (SAR) in Beijing on December 29.

The Basic Law Committee of the Macao SAR, a subordinate body of the Standing Committee of the Chinese National People's Congress (NPC), consists of 10 members. Five members are from the Chinese mainland, five are locals.

Members of the Basic Law Committee of the Macao SAR serve for five years.

Their job is to study the application of Article 17, Article 18, Article 143 and Article 144 and offer suggestions to the NPC Standing Committee.

Qiao Xiaoyang, deputy Secretary-General of the NPC Standing Committee, was named director of the Basic Law Committee of the Macao SAR.

Other members include Li Chengjun (also deputy riector of the Basic Law Committee of the Macao SAR), Wang Zhenmin, Li Fei, Li Peilin, Yang Yunzhong, Zhang Xiaoming, Wu Dawei, Lin Xiaoyun and Huang Hanqiang.
