Hamas attacks Jewish settlements on first day of 2005

Al Qassam Brigades, the armed wing of the Islamic Resistance Movement (Hamas), claimed responsibility on Saturday for attacking several Jewish settlements in the Gaza Strip.

The group said in a leaflet that its militants fired one homemade Qassam rocket at the Jewish settlement of Eli Sinai in northern Gaza Strip and one homemade mortar shell at the settlement of Nitzarim in southern Gaza City.

Hamas militants attacked the Jewish settlement of Naveh Dekalimwest of the southern Gaza Strip town of Khan Yunis with homemade anti-tank rockets, said the leaflet.

Another five mortar shells were fired Saturday at an Israeli army post east of central Gaza Strip, it said.
