First tsunami survivor found
font size

A Sumatran fisherman was discovered barely alive under his beached boat on Sunday in Indonesia, the first survivor found in three days.

The 24-year-old Tengku Sofyan could barely speak and was badly dehydrated. He was later sent to a hospital in Banda Aceh, the hardest hit region where an estimated one hundred thousand people died in the most powerful earthquake in four decades.

The earthquake triggered powerful tsunamis that hit countries along the Indian Ocean. So far about 150 thousand people in the region are feared dead.
