Death toll in Asia quake, tsunamis hits 142,000

The death toll from the massive tsunamis triggered by a 8.7-magnitude earthquake in Indonesia on Dec. 26 has risen to over 142,000. Following are the figures reported from some disaster-hit countries:

Sri Lanka--- 29,729

India--- 13,000

Indonesia--- 95,000

Thailand--- 5,046

The figures are based on local official and media reports as of 0600 GMT Monday and they are subject to updating.
