Schroeder to address Auschwitz anniversary

German Chancellor Gerhard Schroeder will address a memorial ceremony this month marking the 60th anniversary of the liberation of the Auschwitz concentration camp,organizers said Tuesday.

Schroeder will speak at the commemoration ceremony in Berlin attended by former labors of the Nazi death camp on Jan.25, the international Auschwitz committee said in a statement.

Meanwhile, German President Horst Koehler will attend an anniversary ceremony in south Poland's Auschwitz on Jan.27.

On Jan. 27, 1945, Soviet Red Army troops liberated Auschwitz concentration camp, where between 1.2 and 1.6 million people were killed, most of them Jews.

Leaders from about 14 countries will attend the Jan. 27 anniversary ceremony in Auschwitz.
