France to observe 3-minute silence for tsunami victims
font size

French Prime Minister Jean-Pierre Raffarin announced Tuesday in a statement that France will stand in 3-minute silent tribute on Wednesday at noon as other European countries, in sign of solidarity with victims in the Asian tsunamis.

The 3-minute silence will be observed in all the French ministries and public services to commemorate those lost their lives in the Asian tsunamis.

Raffarin hoped all French people could join this homage, which will be paid along with the other European Union members.

On Dec. 26 an 8.7-magnitude underwater earthquake struck off the Indonesian island of Sumatra and triggered tsunamis which hit India, Sri Lanka, Malaysia and four other Asian countries, killingover 150,000 people.
