Over 10,000 foreigners killed, missing or unaccounted for in Asian tsunamis

More than 10,000 foreigners are killed, missing or unaccounted for in the tsunamis triggered by a strong earthquake off an Indonesia island.

The earthquake, with a magnitude of 8.7 over the Richter scale according to China's State Seismological Bureau, occurred at 06:58a.m. (0058 GMT) on Dec. 26 off the west coast of the Indonesian island of Sumatra. The death toll now is more than 140,000.

The following is a list of foreigners killed or reported missing so far in the disaster:

Argentina:

2 reported missing in Thailand.

Australia:

14 dead, 79 missing and about 650 unaccounted for.

Austria:

10 confirmed dead, at least 443 missing and 218 unaccounted for.

Belgium:

6 dead and 99 missing. About 375 nationals have not been unaccounted for.

Brazil:

2 killed.

Britain:

41 were reported killed and 159 people unaccounted for.

Canada:

5 dead, 150 known missing.

Chile:

7 missing.

China:

12 confirmed dead. (Three from the mainland, eight from Hong Kong, three from Taiwan)

Colombia:

1 baby girl killed in Malaysia.

Croatia:

1 dead, 1 missing.

The Czech Republic:

1 dead, about 7 reported missing, 10 nationals unaccountable.

Denmark:

At least 7 dead, 57 missing.

Finland:

1 confirmed dead, 183 missing.

France:

22 killed, 99 missing, 560 unaccounted for.

Germany:

60 dead, about 1,000 missing.

Greece:

9 missing.

Hungary:

20 missing.

Iceland:

11 missing.

Ireland:

20 missing.

Israel:

4 dead, about 7 missing.

Italy:

At least 18 dead, about 436 missing.

Japan:

23 reported killed, 650 people unaccountable.

Luxembourg:

2 missing.

Malta:

1 missing.

Mexico:

15 reported missing.

The Netherlands:

6 confirmed dead, 30 missing, and 150 unaccounted for.

New Zealand:

1 reported killed, 302 missing.

Norway:

16 dead, 91 unaccounted for.

Poland:

5 dead, 36 missing.

Portugal:

8 missing.

Romania:

2 missing.

Russia:

10 killed, about 36 unaccounted for.

Singapore:

7 dead, 15 missing, 24 unaccounted for.

South Africa:

9 killed, 7 missing, 880 unaccountable.

South Korea:

11 dead, 9 missing.

Spain:

11 missing.

Sweden:

52 confirmed dead, 702 missing and 1,201 unaccounted for.

Switzerland:

23 were killed, 105 missing and 500 unaccounted for, the official statistics said. But Swiss President Samuel Schmid has said "several hundred" citizens were killed.

Turkey:

1 dead, 16 missing.

The United States:

At least 15 dead.
