Chinese ambassador to Jordan highlights mutual confidence between Palestinians and Israelis

China hopes that Palestinians and Israelis will build mutual confidence in an effort to realize a lasting peace in the Mideast region, Chinese Ambassador to Jordan Luo Xingwu said Thursday in Amman.

He told a press conference that the Chinese vision on the Middle East issue is represented in four points raised by Chinese State Councilor Tang Jiaxuan during his visit to the Palestinian territories and Israel late last year.

The first point is to resume peace talks between Palestinians and Israel and put an end to violence, especially violence targeting civilians, the ambassador said.

"These also include ensuring a smooth election process, respecting an elected Palestinian leadership and improving humanitarian conditions in Palestine," he said.

The second point, the ambassador said, affirms the importance of reviving the roadmap and establishing an independent Palestinian state.

The third point highlights that Israel's relations with Syria and Lebanon are two important components in a comprehensive and lasting Mideast peace process, the ambassador said.

As for the fourth point, the ambassador stressed it includes enhancing the role of the international community to push the peace process forward.

On China's relations with Jordan, Luo described them as excellent, indicating that Jordanian King Abdullah II's recent visit to China yielded outstanding results.
