Sweet Russian girl Elena Dementieva overpowered the defending champion Venus Williams of the United States 6-3, 6-2 to win the final of the Hong Kong tennis exhibition game on January 8.
Dementiva played close to perfect, especially after she won back her confidence of serve, which brought her trouble in her first serve game that was easily broken by Williams.
For just one hour Dementiva clinched the final victory, breaking Williams' serve five times.
"I played pretty well today and these days", said Demntieva. "I think I played a best game in my career and I hope to keep fit and the form to grand slam."
It's the sixth time for Hong Kong to hold the exhibition game just weeks ahead of the Australian Open and this time the game featured a special significance as a charity match for the Indian Ocean tsunami disaster, which had been reported to have no less than 150,000 people killed.
"Definitely, the most proudest moment was that before the match started, I saw how kind and generous for people in Hong Kong to raise money to the tsunami victims, " said Williams.
A special charity auction was held before the final for the tsunami disaster and the final loser's tennis racquets was sold out in 400,000 HK dollars (about 50,000 US dollars), beating the winner Demenieva's 70,000 HK dollars.
A total of 1,219,000 HK dollars was collected in the auction.
