A charity gala was held in Beijing Sunday night as part of China's largest ever aid package to the tsunami-stricken countries.

More than 160,000 audience sang and applauded while the 30-plus pop stars performed at the show, which is sponsored by the Red Cross Society of China (RCSC) and press in Beijing.

It designed for calling on the society to do what they can to help the south and southeast Asian countries and people that suffered from the deadly tsunami.

"Everyone has the time in need. It is an unfortunate disaster, but we may avail this opportunity to create an atmosphere of mutual help," said Gu Wenxing, a student from the Beijing University of Science and Engineering, one of the viewers who waited on Jan. 3 in a long queue to buy the tickets priced at 100 yuan (12 US dollars) each.

Stars, along with their fans, bought tickets themselves to show their love for those stricken by the natural disaster.

While watching the show, many people also put money in donation boxes. All the money collected at the show will be transferred to tsunami-hit regions through RCSC.
