The death toll of Hong Kong tsunami victims may rise to 10, an official of the Hong Kong Special Administrative Region (HKSAR) government said Friday.

Deputy Secretary for Security Michael Wong said that in the past 24 hours one more female Hong Kong resident may have died.

Wong said the government will further verify the fact. If confirmed, the death toll of Hong Kong tsunami victims would rise to 10.

He said by 12:00 Friday, 58 Hong Kong residents were reported to have lost contact with their families in Hong Kong. Fifty nine Hong Kong residents were reported to have lost contact with their families Thursday.

Among the missing ones, 33 were tourists to Thailand, nine to Indonesia, one to Malaysia and 15 to other tsunamis-hit areas.
