Pakistan's National Assembly (NASpeaker, Ch. Amir Hussain said Monday that the country is committed to cooperation in the international war on terror and will continue to support the cause of a just and free world, the official Associated Press of Pakistan reported.

"Pakistan is firmly committed to cooperate with the coalition against terrorism. We have been doing so and we shall continue to support the cause of a just and free world," he said while speaking at a banquet hosted here in honor of Speaker Canadian House of Commons Peter Milliken.

"Pakistan has also taken several initiatives to build trust, promote reconciliation and lower tensions between Pakistan and India. It is our policy to pursue a peaceful settlement of the Kashmir dispute in a meaningful manner," Ch. Amir Hussain said.

He said he was particularly pleased to welcome the Canadian Parliamentary Delegation at a point when democracy in Pakistan is gaining strength and stability with each passing day. However, democracy is not a single step, it is a gradual process, he added.

"We are following a roadmap to democracy and all issues are discussed freely in the Parliament. The difference of opinion is welcomed and reconciled through free and fair political dialogue between the Government and the Opposition," the NA speaker said.
