A man who pretended to be a senior police officer to get into Windsor Castle pleaded guilty Monday.
Michael Hammond spent an hour on the castle ground after sneaking into the castle by impersonating a Scotland Yard detective assigned to accompany friends of Princes William and Harry.
The 36-year-old man led the Metropolitan Police on a wild goosechase and sparked a security scare in last May as he made hoax calls to report sighting of armed criminals.
Hammond pleaded guilty Monday to one charge of being a public nuisance, a plea which incorporated 11 instances of impersonating a police officer and one of wasting police time, according to a Sky News report.
Police described him as a fantasist who claimed to have had a string of beautiful women, to be a friend of the Duke of York and Prince Charles, William and Harry, and to be a millionaire playboy.
In reality he is the son of a decorator from Bexhill, East Sussex, southern England, and is heavily in debt.
Hammond, who has 102 previous convictions, mainly for fraud or deception, was remanded in custody. He is due to be sentenced on Feb. 4.
