font size

Chinese Vice Premier Huang Ju said in Beijing Tuesday that he hoped the British Taikoo Company would continue to play a positive role in the development of the Hong Kong Special Administrative region.

Vice Premier Huang made the remarks during a meeting with former Chairman of British John Swire & Sons Co. Adrian Swire, present Chairman James Hughes-Hallett and their party. He expressed appreciation for the efforts of John Swire & Sons in promoting Hong Kong's economy and enhancing economic cooperation between Hong Kong and the Chinese mainland.

Huang said maintaining Hong Kong's international status on banking, trade and shipping comply with the desires of the Chinese people, including Hong Kong compatriots, and is in the interest of foreign investors in Hong Kong.

"The Chinese government will adhere to the principle of 'one China, two systems,' and support the Hong Kong SAR government in governing the region by law, improving economy and safeguarding social stability," he said.

Adrian Swire said John Swire & Sons will, as always, work to improve Hong Kong's economy and enhance the trade relations between Hong Kong and the Chinese mainland.
