Wang Zhaoguo, vice-chairman of the Standing Committee of the National People's Congress (NPC), China's top legislature, met here Tuesday separately with a delegation of youth assembly members from the Republic of Korea (ROK) and an Iceland parliamentary delegation.

While meeting with the ROK delegation led by Kim Hyuk Kyu, member of the ROK National Assembly, Wang said communications between young people of the two countries constitute an important part of the relationship between China and ROK.

Therefore, to enhance multi-form and multi-level exchanges between young people is of significance for deepening mutual understanding and friendship between them and for promoting the friendly and cooperative relationship between the two countries, he said.

"I hope the young statesmen of ROK and the Communist Youth League of China will further expand communications in the future, so as to make greater contributions to build an all-round cooperative partner relationship between the two countries and to push forward a long-term, healthy and steady progress for the bilateral ties," he said.

The ROK delegation paid the visit at the invitation of the Central Committee of Communist Youth League of China.

During meeting with the Iceland delegation, Wang told the guests that China and Iceland have no conflict of fundamental interests and the two sides share extensive common interests and common grounds in keeping world peace and realizing a coordinated development of economy, society and environment.

China attaches importance to developing ties with Iceland and appreciates the Iceland's one China policy, he said.

"China is willing to join hands with Iceland to lift the friendly and cooperative relationship between the two countries to a new high," he said.

The Iceland delegation headed by Speaker Halldor Blondal is paying an official goodwill visit to China from Jan. 11 to 18 at the invitation of Wu Bangguo, chairman of the NPC Standing Committee.
