Tsunami death toll in Aceh, North Sumatra up to 106,523

The death toll from the Dec. 26 tsunami in the Indonesian provinces of Aceh and North Sumatra rose to 106,523 from the previous figure of 105,522, according to a report from the Ministry of Social Affairs Wednesday.

The ministry also said 12,047 people went missing in the disaster and 694,760 other made homeless.

Coastal towns of Meulaboh, Banda Aceh and Aceh Jaya made up themajority of the death toll with a combined figure of 65,956.
