font size

Mauritius' Prime Minister Paul Raymond Berenger on Wednesday met with visiting Chinese Foreign Minister Li Zhaoxing in the island nation's capital Port Louis.

Berenger said there is special bond between his country and China and their peoples. He praised China for its support to Mauritius, and said his government will stick to the "one China" policy.

Li said China and Mauritius have enjoyed stable development in bilateral relations, noting the Indian Ocean island is one of the major hosts to Chinese workers in Africa.

The top Chinese diplomat said Mauritius is an important trade partner of China, and the airport terminal, stadium and hospital donated and constructed by China had favorable effects on Mauritius. He also noted the first third-generation (3G) mobile communications network in Africa is to be built in Mauritius by Huawei, a Chinese company.

Li said the Chinese government appreciated Mauritian government's support to the "one China" policy and to other issues such as the human rights issue.
