US President George W. Bush on Wednesday defended his decision to invade Iraq even though no weapons of mass destruction have been found in Iraq.

"Like many, many here in the United States, many around the world, the United Nations thought he had weapons of mass destruction, and so, therefore, we need to find out what went wrong in the intelligence gathering. Saddam was dangerous ... The world was safer without him in power," Bush said in an interview with the ABC.

When asked whether it had been worth invading Iraq even without the weapons of mass destruction, Bush said: "Oh, absolutely."

According to a report by the Washington Post on Wednesday, the US hunt for Iraq's alleged weapons of mass destruction has come toan end nearly two years after Bush launched the Iraq war to disarmits former leader Saddam Hussein.

The Iraq Survey Group (ISG), established to search for biological, chemical and nuclear weapons in Iraq, folded up the effort shortly after Christmas last month because of violence in the Middle Eastern country and lack of new information, the reportquoted officials serving with the group as saying.

Even though no weapons of mass destruction have been found in Iraq, Bush has repeatedly defended his decision to launch the Iraqwar, claiming that the United States and the world are better and safer without Saddam Hussein in power.
