Saudi militant killed in Kuwait shootout
font size

A Saudi militant was killed in an armed clash with Kuwaiti security forces in southern Kuwait on Saturday, Kuwaiti Interior Minister Sheikh Nawaf al-Ahmed al-Sabah said.

"A wanted man was killed. He was a Saudi," the minister told reporters outside a house stormed by security forces in Umm Al-Haiman near the border with Saudi Arabia.

"We arrested another ... and the rest fled," he said. "Four or five gunmen were involved in Saturday's fire exchange."

Acting on a tipoff, the security forces also seized large quantities of arms and explosives from the militants' possession.

Two Kuwaiti security men were wounded in the gunfight.

The incident came after two policemen and an extremist suspect were killed Monday evening in a shootout in a suburb of Kuwait City.
