Shanghai names seven new "sources of disasters"
font size

To get sufficient evaluation for the prospect of the city's disaster relief work, the Shanghai Municipal Government has listed seven new disaster sources that may endanger the city's safety.

According to a general plan for handling disasters published by the municipal government, the new sources of disasters include:

More than 4, 000 high-rise buildings and skyscrapers in the city have posed grave challenge to fire safety.

Having experienced accelerated construction and exploitation, the underground spaces may become new places where accidents will happen.

Influence of lightning strike will appear significant because social development and economic growth have become increasingly dependent on informatization.

Outbreak of epidemic infectious disease may take place more easily and frequently in the densely populated city with frequent personnel exchanges.

The "West-to-east gas transportation" will help Shanghai finalize adjustment to its energy structure. But any damage to the gas pipeline or cut of gas supply may endanger the city's lifeline.

Possibility of radioactive pollution should not be neglected.

"Light pollution" caused by decorative glass walls of the buildings. The "glass rain" may take place should typhoon or earthquake strikes the city.
