HK-mainland boundary flow upgrades under study: official
font size

A host of new measures are being considered to enhance the movement of people and goods across the HK-mainland boundary, Secretary for Security of the Hong Kong government Ambrose Lee said Wednesday.

Briefing legislators on the Security Bureau's initiatives in the 2005 Policy Agenda, Lee said the measures include the adoption of flexible staff deployment, streamlining immigration procedures, using new technologies and establishing a new boundary control point for the Hong Kong-Shenzhen Western Corridor.

"We will also press ahead with other related preparatory work, including the necessary legislative amendments for the co-location arrangement," he said.

In other security issues, Lee said efforts to combat illegal employment and cross-boundary crime will continue.

On biometric Hong Kong passports, Lee said the bureau will seek funds from the Legislative Council later this year to issue the passports in early 2007.
