There exist great opportunities for Ukraine and the European Union (EU) to deepen cooperation, EU's foreign policy chief Javier Solana told Ukrainian parliament leader Volodymyr Litvin on Friday.
Solana said Ukraine had every reason to expect close cooperation with the EU and how deep the cooperation could go depends on efforts of the Ukrainian side.
He hailed the role of Litvin and the Ukrainian parliament in solving the political crisis and safeguarding social stability in the disputed presidential elections.
Efforts should be made to develop mutually beneficial relations between Ukraine, Russia and the EU, he said.
Litvin said his country would take concrete action in response to the signal from the EU and vowed to press ahead with the country's democratic process.
