Cuba, Iran sign accord to boost economic ties

Cuba and Iran have signed an agreement to boost bilateral economic and commercial cooperation, said local press in Havana Friday.

The agreement was signed during a session of the Inter-Governmental Commission for Economic and Sci-tech Collaboration, which concluded on Friday.

Under the agreement, Cuba will receive a credit from Iran, which will be used to boost Cuba's agricultural production and its light industry and help it overcome the effect of severe drought in its east and central regions.

Cuba will provide Iran with pharmaceutical technology, which will enable the Asian country to produce Cuban medicines like the hepatitis B vaccine on its own.

Ricardo Cabrisas, Cuba's Interior Minister and co-president of the meeting, said the session strengthened the official and commercial ties between the two countries and that both governments would continue efforts to deepen and extend bilateral cooperation.
