Taiwanese gets ticket for charter flights
A Taiwan woman displays her air ticket after becoming the first Taiwan compatriot in Shanghai to get a ticket for the non-stop direct charter flights across the Taiwan Straits January 22, 2005. Her family are scheduled to fly to Taipei on January 29. The Chinese mainland and Taiwan reached a landmark deal January 15 to allow non-stop charter flights over the Chinese New Year holidays.

Truck with 44 tons of gasoline caught on fire
An oil truck carrying 44 tons of gasoline caught fire at 1100 am on Friday in the Linzi district of Zibo of Eastern China's Shandong Province. A local fire brigade arrived to the spot four minutes later and put on the fire at 13:20 pm. The road was full of bumps and holes because of the high temperature, and covered with white foam and dirty water. The cause of the accident is still under investigation.

Eight Chinese hostages in Iraq released
A TV grab taken on Jan. 22, 2005 shows Chinese hostages being released by Iraqi militants (R1) in Iraq. The Chinese embassy in Iraq confirmed on Saturday that the eight Chinese hostages held by Iraqi insurgents since Tuesday had been released.
