Renowned Chinese law professor passes away in Macao

Professor Xiao Weiyun of the Faculty of Law of Peking University died of a sudden heart attack in China's Macao Special Administrative Region (SAR) on Saturday.

Born in 1924, Xiao was a member of both the drafting committeesfor the Hong Kong SAR and Macao SAR Basic Laws. He came to Macao on Jan. 11 this year to give lectures in the Macao University of Science and Technology.

Xiao was also a member of the Basic Law Committee of the Macao SAR under the Standing Committee of the Chinese National People's Congress (NPC) and honorary rector of the Law School of the Macao University of Science and Technology.
