Shenzhen to make bid for 2011 Universiade

China's southern city Shenzhen will make a bid for a future Universiade Games, according to an official of Chinese delegation who is attending the 22nd Winter Universiade here on Saturday.

"Shenzhen will bid for the 2011 World Universiade, and it was authorized by the Chinese government." said Yang Liguo, executive deputy chef de misson of the Chinese delegation.

"Senior officials from Shenzhen have attended the general meeting of the International University Sports Federation (FISU) early this month." said Yang, who also serves as vice president ofChina University Sports Federation (FUSC), "They want to be a early bird."

Shenzhen, located in the south of China, is a scenic coastal city of China, adjacent to Hong Kong SAR across a river.

The host city of 2011 Universiade will be decided on the general meeting of FISU in January, 2007, during the 2007 Turin Winter Universiade in Italy.
