Beijing to be divided into four functional zones
font size

On the basis of a new layout, Beijing's 18 districts and counties is to be divided into four functional zones, i.e., zone of capital's core functions, zone of city's extended functions, new development zone and ecological preservation zone, sources from the 3rd session of the 10th CPPCC Beijing Committee tell.

The Dongcheng, Xicheng, Chongwen, Xuanwu and Shijingshan districts will be made "zone of capital's core functions". Displaying characteristics of Beijing comprehensively, this zone serves as China's political, cultural and international exchanges center and bears a capital's functions.

Chaoyang, Haidian and Fengtai districts will be "zone of city's extended functions", which will expand a capital city's functions, in particular the function to serve the export-oriented economy, and improve the core competence needed for the capital's development.

The "new development zone" includes Tongzhou, Daxing, Shunyi and Changping districts. Depending on national development zones, this area will focus on function of manufacture, logistics and supporting people, and is set to become the new growth base of the capital.

Six counties and districts at Beijing's outskirt including Mengtougou, Fangshan, Pinggu, Huairou, Miyun and Yanqing will be made "zone of ecological preservation", the "green lung" of the capital. As Beijing's ecological barrier and the place where water resource is protected, this zone is the key area for Beijing's sustainable development.
