The preparatory work of Beijing 2008 Olympic Games has been in full swing. Five stresses have been set for the year 2005: promoting venue construction, marketing, reporting, organization of games and preparation for Paralympic Games.

This is learned on January 25 at the third session of the Twelfth People's Congress of Beijing municipality.

Construction of Olympic venues and facilities in full swing

In collaboration with departments of Beijing concerned, the Beijing Organizing Committee for the Games of the XXIX Olympiad (BOCOG) will complete the adjustment and design of venues, striving for the recognition by international sports associations.

At the same time, the overall plan of the operation of the Olympic Park during the games and get down to that of each stadium; formulate the plan for the construction of temporary facilities and determine the locations of venues for training their standards.

More efforts in marketing

According to BOCOG, it will complete the invitation for cooperation partners in the first quarter and speed up the implementation of the plan on sponsor, supplier and franchisee. Meanwhile, ticket office will be established to formulate and improve all the relevant plans including that on sponsor services and ticket strategy.

Actively develop reporting and cultural construction

A think tank and operation mechanism for the opening ceremony of the Games will be set up this year; the route of torch relay be settled. Beijing will also try to do a good job in the unveiling and promotion of mascot as well as in Olympic cultural festival.

Speed up organization of games

Beijing will complete the guidelines for the implementation of the organization of games; establish a panel for games; select and appoint a director; determine the stadiums for training and competition of all the sports; complete the overall competition deployment and schedule of test games; sign cooperation agreement with four cities designated for soccer preliminaries.

Get down to preparations for Paralympic Games

Beijing plans to determine the cooperation agreement with International Paralympic Committee (IPC) and settle the work plan for Paralympic Games after adjustment; complete the plan of sports and the arrangement of the stadiums for training and competition with special requirements taken into consideration; start planning the schedule of the games and work on equipment.
