font size

A gathering will be held at the Great Hall of the People here Friday to mark the 10th anniversary of the publication of the Eight-Point Proposal on the reunification of the motherland by then-President Jiang Zemin.

Representatives of all walks of life are expected to attend the event, at which a central leader will make a speech, according to Li Weiyi, a spokesman of the State Council Taiwan Affairs Office.

Speaking at a regular news briefing Wednesday, the spokesman said Jiang's proposal has played an important role in pushing forward the development of the cross-straits relations in the past decade.

Implementing Jiang's proposal "is of great importance for stabilizing and normalizing the cross-straits relationship, as well as for peace and stability in the Asian-Pacific Region," Li said.
