Germany's stunning 8-0 thrashing of the Chinese women soccer team at the Athens Olympic Games was an unusual result and will not be repeated, said German head coach Thenne Meyer ahead of the four-nation invitational in Quanzhou, Fujian Province on Jaunary 27.
"We can't play another 8-0 here because that was a special match," said Meyer.
Germany dealt a blow to all Chinese soccer fans when they crushed the Steel Roses 8-0 in the opening round of their Group B match at last year's Olympic Games with FIFA Women Player of the Year in 2004 Birgit Prinz striking four times.
"That was an unusual game and we had many chances which we converted into goals while China also had chances, but they didn't score," said Meyer, whose team will face the restructured Chinese team next Tuesday, the last day of the six-day event, which also sees the participation of Russia and Australia.
"China will play on their home soil this time. It will be a close match," Meyer added.
China, sixth in the FIFA world rankings, takes on world number 12 Russia on Friday while world champion Germany faces Australia, ranked 15th in the world.
