Deepening EU-China ties benefits both: EP PresidentDeepening relations between the European Union (EU) and China is in the basic interests of both sides, said European Parliament (EP) President Josep Borrell Fontelles Wednesday in Brussels. When meeting with Wang Jiarui, head of the International Department of the Central Committee of the Chinese Communist Party (CPC), Borrell said the EU-China relationship is at its best time, furthering the bilateral ties is also helpful to safeguarding world peace and stability. Borrell said China has scored remarkable achievements in recent years and it has also played an increasingly important role in the international arena, for which the international community appreciates very much. The EP chief also vowed to make efforts in issues like recognizing China's market economy status, so as to push forward the EU-China relations. Wang said the Chinese government attached vital importance to its friendly cooperation with the EU, and it is willing to make concerted efforts with the EU institutions including the EP to elevate the China-EU all-around strategic partnership into a higher level. Prior to the meeting, the EP chief sent his new-year greetings to the Chinese people on the eve of Chinese lunar new year, the Spring Festival. Wang is expected to meet with European Commissioner for External Relations Benita Ferrero-Waldner on Wednesday evening. |
