2 earthquakes rock tsunami-hit Aceh
font size

Two earthquakes shook the Indonesian province of Aceh on Friday, with the local geophysics agency warning about continued aftershocks since the world's strongest quake in 40 years that triggered a tsunami on Dec. 26.

The first quake measuring at 5.4 on the Richter scale was felt in the provincial capital of Banda Aceh at 03:10 local time and around three hours later a 4.6-magnitude quake jolted the tsunami-ravaged city again, reported the Antara news agency.

A local official with the geophysics agency said aftershocks will continue to hit Aceh in the next several weeks.

A 9-magnitude quake on Dec. 26 has triggered a tsunami that flattened several towns in Aceh and killed more than 110,000 people.
