New governor of Jilin Province elected

Northeast China's Jilin Province elected new governor on Saturday.

Wang Min, former acting governor of the northeastern industrial province, was elected new governor of the province by the third plenary session of the 10th Jilin Provincial People's Congress being held on Saturday.

The 55-year-old Wang, native of east China's Anhui Province, used to be professor, advisor to doctorate candidates and vice president of Nanjing Aeronautical University. He served as vice governor of Jiangsu Province, secretary of Suzhou City Committee of the Communist Party of China (CPC) before being transferred to the northeastern industrial base as a deputy secretary of CPC Jilin Provincial Committee in October 2004.

He was elected by local legislature as vice governor and acting governor of Jilin on Oct. 30, 2004.
