India and Russia have agreed to work for a "more cooperative, consensual and a multi-polar security order," the Indo-Asian News Service reported Saturday.

During their bilateral consultations on strategic stability and disarmament, the two sides affirmed their commitment to further develop and enhance their bilateral strategic partnership.

During the talks held here Friday, the two sides exchanged perceptions and assessments on regional and international security issues.

"They agreed on the need for working towards the goal of a more cooperative, consensual and a multi-polar security order," said a statement issued by the external affairs ministry Saturday.

While the Indian delegation to the talks was led by Meera Shankar, additional secretary in the external affairs ministry, the Russian team was headed by Deputy Foreign Minister Sergei Kislyak.

The two delegations comprised representatives of the foreign ministry and other concerned ministries.

The two sides decided to continue the dialogue, with Russians offering to host the next round of talks in Moscow.

Despite the disintegration of the Soviet Union in 1991, the relationship between India and Russia remains one of considerable significance to both nations.
