Xu Guangchun, 61, on Sunday was elected chairman of the Standing Committee of Henan Provincial People's Congress at the Third Session of the 10th Henan Provincial People's Congress.

Xu, a native of Shaoxing, east China's Zhejiang Province, also serves as secretary of the Henan Provincial Committee of the Communist Party of China (CPC).

Xu formerly served as deputy head of Department of Publicity of CPC Central Committee, director of State Administration of Radio, Film and Television and chairman of Board of Management of Chinese Radio, TV and Film Group.

Graduated from the Department of Journalism of People's University of China in 1969, Xu joined the CPC in 1973. He is a member of 16th CPC Central Committee.
