Four Moroccans arrested over links to Madrid train bombings
font size

Four Moroccan suspects linked to the March 11 Madrid train bombings were arrested Tuesday by Spanish police, the Interior Ministry said.

The four, including a married couple in their 40s and their two sons, were arrested in Leganes in the suburb of Madrid, a ministry statement said.

The statement said the four are believed to have abetted the escape from the Spanish capital of two suspects in the bombings following the collective suicide on April 3 of seven men believed to have masterminded the attacks.

Militants have claimed responsibility for the bombings which killed 191 people and injured more than 1,500, saying they acted on behalf of the al-Qaida terrorist organization.

The four new suspects are also believed to have connections with Hasan al Haski, a Moroccan arrested last December, the ministry said.
