Azerbaijan Foreign Minister Elmar Mammedyarov said Friday in Beijing that his ongoing China tour is very successful and the bilateral cooperative relations will be lifted to a new height.
Mammedyarov, who arrived in Beijing Thursday at the invitation of Chinese Foreign Minister Li Zhaoxing, met with Chinese Vice Premier Huang Ju and held talks with Li on Friday.
"I've conferred with Chinese leaders on issues concerning Azerbaijani President Ilham Aliyev's planned visit to China this year," Mammedyarov said.
The two countries, sharing identical stances on a series of international issues, have witnessed stable growth of their bilateral relations in recent years, he said. Aliyev's upcoming visit to China will mark a new phase of bilateral relations, he said.
Cooperating in the fields of energy, light industry and tourism, Azerbaijan and China have boosted their economic and trade cooperation remarkably, he said. In 2004, Azerbaijan exported oil-related products worth about 40 million US dollars to China, he said. Azerbaijan welcomes more Chinese companies to participate in the company's oil projects.
In ancient times, Azerbaijan was a trade partner of China along the "Silk Road," and now the construction of the new Eurasian continental bridge will bring more convenience for the goods trade between China and Azerbaijan, he said.
He spoke highly of China's positive role in international affairs, saying that China, as a permanent member of the United Nations Security Council, is playing an important role in major international affairs and safeguarding world peace.
China's independent foreign policy of peace is welcomed by most countries in the world. Azerbaijan and China have been keeping good consultations and cooperation in the United Nations and other international organizations, he said.
Mammedyarov also said he was amazed to see the great achievements China has made in its economic development.
