China will hold a grand gathering in September to mark the 60th anniversary of the victory of the Chinese people over Japanese aggressors and of the world people over Fascism, the Information Office of the State Council disclosed in Beijing Saturday.
The Chinese people's War of Resistance against Japan (1937-45) was an important component of the world people's war against Fascism, and the Chinese people had made enormous national sacrifice and historic contributions to the triumph of the world people's war against Fascism, said a spokesman for the Information Office.
The Chinese government will invite veterans of the war, representatives of compatriots in Taiwan, Hong Kong and Macao and of overseas Chinese, foreign friends who helped China during the war or their family members, to attend the commemorative meeting.
During the meeting, Chinese leaders, war veterans, and representatives from all walks of life will present floral baskets to the Monument to the People's Heroes at the center of Tian'anmen Square in downtown Beijing.
As part of the commemorative activities, art performances will also be staged in Beijing.
