Chinese custom seizes 818 kg of drugs in 2004

China's custom offices seized 818 kilograms of drugs in 2004, cracked 106 drug trafficking cases and captured 149 suspects.

The anti-drug work of the customs have advanced from confiscating drugs to coordinating the police to investigate drug-related cases, Lu Bin, director of the Anti-smuggling Department of the General Administration of Customs, said in Beijing on February 5.

Meanwhile, the administration has taken an active part in cooperation with international anti-drug campaigns and exchange with international organizations in anti-drug techniques.

According to statistics from the Ministry of Public Security, Chinese police dug out 11.1 tons of drugs last year and detained 53,045 suspects in 2004.
