Hong Kong Special Administrative Region's Chief Executive Tung Chee Hwa Tuesday expressed his hope that Hong Kong's economic growth be sustained and employment continue to improve in the coming year.
Delivering his Lunar New Year message, Tung said this year's spring festival will be greeted by a buoyant market, as Hong Kong's economy is at its best in seven years.
Tung said recent economic development is the result of the collective efforts of all residents.
"In the coming year, we expect economic growth to be sustained and employment to continue to improve. I believe that as long as we press ahead with one heart and respect for different views, we will build a more prosperous and harmonious society," Tung said.
Tung wished Hong Kong people a fruitful, harmonious and serene New Year.
According to the information office of the Hong Kong government, Tung will take leave during the Lunar New Year festive period between Feb. 9 and 12.
During Tung's absence, Chief Secretary Donald Tsang will be the
Acting Chief Executive from Feb. 9 until his departure from Hong Kong on Feb. 10. Financial Secretary Henry Tang will then be the Acting Chief Executive until Tung resumes duties on Feb. 13.
