Toyota Motor Co. announced on Tuesday that it is recalling 22,228 Tacoma pickups in the United States because the parking brake may not work.
Toyota spokesman John Hanson said in Detroit that the company decided to recall the vehicles after the US National Highway Traffic Safety Administration received eight complaints. No injuries have been reported due to the defect, Hanson said.
The Japanese carmaker said that the lock nut on the parking brake cable may not have been properly tightened and can loosen and come off. If that happens, the vehicle could roll if it is stopped on a slope and the transmission is not in park. The recallinvolves Tacoma pickups from the 2005 model year with automatic transmissions.
